Meet Lauren Collins

Founder and creator of Renovate Your Plate

As a registered dietitian, food lover, health nut and creator of Renovate Your Plate, my passion in life is to help others live healthier lives through nutrition and wellness.

I received my Bachelors in Dietetics at Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana. After graduation I began working towards my Masters in Nutrition and Dietetics. Through Ball State University I completed the Dietetic Internship, which consisted of a clinical and food management rotation at St. Vincent Hospital in Kokomo Indiana.

Growing up I loved to cook, help others and on top of that, science was pretty intriguing to me. These interests turned into a passion. I have been counseling individuals with nutrition one-on-one for several years and I love it!

As cliché as it sounds, I was destined to help others find a healthy relationship with food. I truly believe I was put on this earth to teach others how to renovate their plates and to enjoy it.

The mission of Renovate Your Plate is to help others live healthier lives through nutrition and wellness.

My Passion for Healthy Living Runs Deep

A lifetime of healthy pursuits.

Let me start by saying, I do not have super powers and I am definitely not a magician. As a matter of fact I have experienced my own battles with food and body image. Conquering my own obstacles has allowed me to relate to all types of eaters on a personal level.

My passion for food and taking care of people began when I was little girl. Whether I was sneaking into the kitchen to experiment with new recipes after my parents had left for the day or taking care of family members when they were sick, I had no idea what I wanted to do when I grew up but I knew it had to involve food and helping people.

Throughout my high school career I had an amazing teacher who introduced me to the world of Food Science through her chemistry classes. When I was a teenager I had the opportunity to work at Curves for Women, ultimately, this job is how my love for food grew into a love for helping others through food. I started applying to colleges with little clue of what I wanted to study. It just so happened that when I took a tour of Ball State’s campus, my tour guide was a Dietetics Major. Wait what? Oh, you get to cook, eat, help people, and dabble in science? SIGN ME UP!

Fast forward to 7 years later and I have been a dietitian for 3 years and absolutely love it! I began working for the YMCA of Greater Indianapolis as an RD. At the Y I was able to gain a wide range of experience from all ages focusing on weight management, disease management and overall healthy living. I started Renovate Your Plate because I felt that I had so much more to give. I wanted to spice things up by getting into people’s homes and showing them how to renovate their plate in their very own kitchen.

Renovate Your Plate has allowed me the opportunity to teach people how to renovate their plate as well as to eat mindfully and enjoy it. Food should be celebrated and not feared. Although the plate is where changes are made, it all starts with the mind.

I would love to help YOU renovate your plate one bite at a time.
